Where to start! Tell us about Rhythm Section. What inspired you to form the party? How did the idea come about? And what’s the ethos behind it?

We wanted to connect the incredible people of South East London to the world-standard artists that live and breathe this side of town. The party was a meeting ground and platform for us to all meet, share, dance and sweat over all the nice things, without hiking up to East or North!

The ethos is wholly about community. We’re a DIY event and record label, we welcome everyone and hope to see as many smiles as possible.

Was forming the label offshoot a natural progression? Rhythm Section International, International Black… the sound stretches across the board. What was the ambition for the label when you first set out?

Definitely a natural progression. It was harder not to start a label as there were just so many stunning artists sharing their music. They didn’t have a platform / label and the natural next step was for us to facilitate this. Honestly... we had no idea it would go like this, or for this long, let alone how it’s travelling now! Rhythm Section’s scope functions as it is, purely from our community and friends - who dance hard, make out-of-this-world music and share our common story.

There’s a real feeling of community at your parties, the ‘Peckham strong’ strapline says it all! Why do you think this has formed over the years?

It’s really hard to say... and probably quite complex when you look at it deeply. Briefly though, the label is built on honesty and genuine care for people and music. If you’re nice and embrace everyone around you - we believe magical things will happen. It’s a message of love, care and platforming kind souls.

Live, laugh, love.

Been to / played at E1 before?

I'm popping my E1 cherry and I’m so excited.

Favourite Room?

All the rooms!!!

First rave you went to?

First rave I went to that wasn’t the local u16’s night was Shadow Child at The Nest in Dalston when I definitely was not old enough to go. From that day onward, I knew my path.

What project are you most excited about right now?

For me, it's the re-release of the ‘Techno is Black’ merch I launched last year to spread the good word. Plus just getting back to the club! I can’t wait to dance my lil' heart out!

Warm Up Weapon: James Joint - K2 Retouch

Why: Not only is it a warm little bubbler that gets ya moving, it’s also the best Rihanna edit ever (it might even beat the original…)

Listen here.

-------------------------------------------

Peak Time: Streets of Rage - RAWGAMMA

Why: I am so grateful this track exists. It has been on the top of my list to play on a large sound system. It makes me well up just thinking about it… I hope people lose it as much as I do when it comes on.

-------------------------------------------

One Last Tune: I’m Lonely - Hollis P Monroe

Why: A classic that gives you a little extra before you go home and also is very emotional so maybe one to pull your friends close to before the lights come on.

-------------------------------------------

After-Party: Club Nowhere - LADYMONIX

Why: I mean, this track goes off wherever but we gotta pull out the big ones to keep people going to till lunch, right?

-------------------------------------------

Wild Card: THE TH1NG - Yaeji ft. Victoria Sin & Shy One

Why: Slightly different to what I would play out in a set but I just know how this makes me want to dance and everytime I hear it I just shut my eyes and see moving bodies with strobes. Time to make it happen!

-------------------------------------------

Next Morning: Washed In You - Andrew Ashong & Kaidi Tatham

Why: Actually… this would make me cry. But beautiful music to get you through the sore head is a must. This is a masterpiece.
